Why Battle Garbage?
The ocean is littered with garbage, and it's terribly damaging the ecosystem. Animals can easily mistake different types of trash for food, leading them to their eventual death as their appetites feel full but no nutrients are consumed.[1] The chemicals and micro-plastics from the garbage that seep into the water not only kill off marine life, but their food sources as well. Up above, this also means a contamination of food sources for sea surface feeders and us humans on land.[2]

There's so much garbage in the ocean that it clots together in giant garbage patches pulled in by currents.[3] Tidal Waste is set in one of those garbage patches, and aims to teach players about proper waste disposal through the gameplay.
During battles with the various waste enemies, players are able to choose from a variety of skills that represent different disposal methods. If the correct skills are used on the corresponding type of waste enemy, they gain extra rewards and deal extra damage. To further symbolize how incorrect waste disposal can hurt the environment, if a player uses a wrong disposal method, there is a negative effect and the player may lose items, health, or experience.
