May 18th - Initial Game Test

This was the first test of playing with the game mechanics. Originally we had planned for the game to be a 2d Platformer, but through initial testing of the game mechanics we decided to go a different direction.

The digital prototypes came together as a 2.5 dimensional game. The camera panned left and right to follow you, but stayed put on the forward axis. This allowed the player to see the level well but added depth to it and a feeling of exploration. Our initial playing of this test game created a lot of fun, and we enjoyed the exploration of the level so much that we decided to change the direction of our game. Going forward, we wanted to push this exploration idea further and create a game that really immersed you in the level. Luc worked on camera movement a lot and was able to make the camera follow the player around as a 3rd person controller, and this is what we decided to do for our game.

Gio continued to work on enemy AI and Chance continued to work on level design ideas and research. Luc worked to transform the game to a full 3D experience. Our next checkpoint in the project was Alpha testing, so we wanted to be able to create at least one good test level that gave testers the experience of what the game will be like. With this first 2.5D prototype the mechanics of movement and jumping were working well, and it was the camera adjustments and world building that was to be expanded on next.
